Coinbase Suspends XRP Trading
- Centralized Exchange
- Regulation
Coinbase officially suspended XRP trading on January 19, 2021, following the SEC's lawsuit against Ripple Labs for allegedly selling unregistered securities. The exchange moved XRP trading to limit-only starting December 28, 2020, before the full suspension, though customers retained access to XRP wallets for deposits and withdrawals. The decision joined other major exchanges like OKCoin and Bitstamp in delisting XRP, causing the price to crash from $0.64 to $0.28 within a week as the regulatory uncertainty spooked the market.
