- Security
The Crypto.com hack occurred on January 17, 2022, when hackers exploited a vulnerability that allowed them to bypass the platform's two-factor authentication (2FA) system, enabling unauthorized withdrawals from user accounts without requiring the 2FA code. This affected 483 users, with stolen funds totaling approximately 4,836.26 ETH (worth $15.2 million at the time), 443.93 BTC ($18.6 million), and about $66,200 in other cryptocurrencies — adding up to roughly $30-35 million overall. The attackers laundered much of the stolen assets through privacy tools like Tornado Cash, making full recovery of the funds by authorities difficult.
