Dogecoin Sends Jamaican Bobsled Team To Olympics

When Jamaica's two-man bobsled team qualified for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics but couldn't afford travel expenses, the Dogecoin community launched 'Dogesled' and raised over 26.5 million DOGE (~$30,000) in less than 24 hours. The campaign was organized through the Dogecoin Foundation and Reddit's r/dogecoin, riding on nostalgia for the 1993 film Cool Runnings. Driver Winston Watts and brakeman Marvin Dixon made it to Sochi, and the team wore Dogecoin logos on their uniforms. The fundraiser caused a 50% spike in DOGE's exchange rate and became the first major example of a memecoin community achieving real-world charitable impact.
