The Ethereum Foundation opens its initial coin offering on July 22 2014 to fund development of the smart contract platform. The sale runs through early September and ultimately raises more than 31,000 BTC at roughly $0.30 per ETH. The event establishes the template for future token sales and launches one of crypto's largest ecosystems.
