Liquid Network Drained of 4000 BTC in $320M Exploit

On September 6 an attacker exploited a software vulnerability in Blockstream's Liquid sidechain and extracted roughly 4000 bitcoin worth $320 million. The network was left with only 207 BTC in reserves. The hacker embedded an OP_RETURN message claiming white-hat status and offering to return most of the funds. CT immediately flooded timelines with screenshots of the on-chain message and debates over whether the claim was genuine. Blockstream has not confirmed any recovery as of the reports.
