On April 12 2023, Web3 influencer Nicole Behnam was accused of pumping the "Blocky Doge 3" NFT project, receiving 250 NFTs from Dogecoin co-creator Billy Markus and then selling about 220 of them for roughly 20 ETH (~US$38k), which crashed the floor price. After being called out, she tweeted that "there were mistakes made in a wallet that I controlled" and claimed she refunded the profits and bought cheaper NFTs to 'make holders whole'. The controversy led to her removal from NFT Now's 'NFT 100' list and became a cautionary tale about ethical promotion in NFT communities.
