Rise and Fall of Blue Kirby
- DeFi
- CT Lore
- NFT
Blue Kirby was an anonymous DeFi hype account that rose from nothing to 20,000 followers by relentlessly promoting Yearn Finance during DeFi Summer 2020. Andre Cronje himself gifted Kirby YFI tokens, and the community paid him ~$7,000/month for promotional work. Things unraveled when Kirby hyped Eminence (an unaudited Cronje project) before it was ready, leading to a $15 million exploit that burned his followers. He then sold his YFI holdings at $22,000/coin for ~$550,000 while the token crashed. Finally, he launched 'Off-Blue,' an NFT project that raised ~2,500 ETH before Rarible shut it down over ICO concerns. Facing doxxing threats, Kirby deleted his 20K-follower account and vanished.
