The SEC's official X account was compromised via SIM swap attack. A hacker posted a fake announcement claiming the SEC had approved spot Bitcoin ETFs for listing on national securities exchanges. The post even included a fabricated quote attributed to SEC Chair Gary Gensler, causing Bitcoin's price to spike briefly from around $45,000 to nearly $48,000 in minutes Eric Council Jr. was later arrested for the hack.
